I approve of this message. The thread it has been posted in, however...

Just sounds a bit like a "plz anet im poor halp me" sort of thing. Chests aren't important, and the loot from chests isn't important. They are an added luxury for those who like to gamble. With the money you willingly spend gambling on chests, sometimes you can buy the item you want loads cheaper, and sometimes you can make massive profits. But, if you don't want to gamble at all, then collectors and crafters should be your best friends.

Even if the chests were to drop 100% golds, 95% of the golds are merchant fodder anyways. Purples from chests just don't make sense. Bottom line, it's still a massive gold sink even with 100% golds, so I don't see why we should get purples from chests. At least with 100% golds, we could better our titles, which would help offset the massive cash loss of keys and lockpicks. I may even be tempted to start buying keys and lockpicks again.

/not signed, i would liek to see an improvement in the gold drops but not purples gone altogether.

as otherwise its not as much fun,
"is it gonna be a gold or 5th purple.....its a gold yay..."
and so forth

if you want to "Win" in the lockpick buissness...i really shouldn't be telling you this but....Don't buy any, i've saved a nice bit so far, and if you want title you get 2 shiver keys for 1 pick, and if your l;cuky it retains....

also fix retain rate....

/not signed A gamble is a gamble. Besides, most of the golds are worthless nowadays anyway. Not to mention those going for their wisdom title can buy unidentified golds for 1k or less.

I do think it would be nice if they would at least alter the proportions a bit, so that you had a higher chance of getting high-value materials, tomes, etc. Or at least another key, like, "Sorry, play again!" They could keep the very rare stuff rare, but still make the drops from chests more satisfying.

I say this despite the fact that I rarely open chests anymore, since I don't enjoy hemorrhaging gold. Which is what happens until you get that one lucky drop, which is only really useful if you are any good at selling...

Increasing the proportion of tomes would be especially good - I love tomes so much. They've really reduced the price of skills, so even if they have a resale value that's significantly less than the cost of a key, it will (1) be a guaranteed +40% recoup of the value of the key in gold coins or (2) a new skill for one of your characters, which is kind of priceless in a way.

I agree 100% with upping the gold drops on HM chests.

PS: And that includes Elite Tomes (specially Monk Tomes)

If they did that then all anyone would have to do is to zone outside boreal station in HM for an average 2 golds per minute so /notsigned here.

I have a chest-running place in Hard Mode where I get about a chest a minute (Including merchant time) so this really would make chest runners make more than farmers. Isnt it already bad enough that HA players make more than farmers? but that's for a different thread.

I going to sit on the wall for this one....I do believe that the items from a locked chest should be improved --regardless of the color (there are some really nice grapes out there, better than a good portion of the golds!)
But because of the cost of the picks themselves I think the value of the items should be increased, nothing under say 250g. It really sucks getting a grape thats only worth 90g from a locked chest....not even worth it to have opened the chest let alone the iding of it!

Excellent post - totally agree with all of this. The only thing I'd /sign to is an increase in the retain rate for everyone (not just title grinders). The probability rates are perfectly fine.

besides it would probaly drop the item prices of rare items further and then you'd still get lesser profit from it.

i know it's not fun to get purples in hm chests, but it's a part of the gamble wich i am familair with, simply said not everything can be handed out on a silver platter

and the more purples you get the more chance of some super item dropping soon :P (i wish)

The chests are fine the way they are now, but I wouldn’t mind an increased chance for a gold item in hard mode.

What they could do is improve the drops in the elite missions (The Deep, Urgoz’s Warren). “Wasting” 1,25k for a purple drop where you have to fight large groups of monsters to even see a chest sucks. Drops from this chests should always be gold imo.

Well lockpicks more expensive, but at least you have a chance to keep them after you’ve opened a chest.

Hard Mode loot isn't scaled proportionately to the effort required to obtain it, chests or otherwise. If you're trying to make money from Hard Mode, you either have to:

A) Devote way too much time to playing the game
B) Get very lucky very early

If you're not a "hardcore" player, farm in normal mode. You'll make less money per run, but you can do the runs much faster.

Also, as has been pointed out, chests are a gamble, and gamblers very rarely beat the dealer. Even if they scaled the loot up to golds only in HM, you'd still lose money. You're really only looking at a savings of 200g or less per chest drop in savings, though. You'd have to open up 7 chests to save enough for 1 more lockpick.

Working on chests should not be a gamble but an investment, and a profitable one, given the time it takes. The best games anyway are those providing more roads leading to Rome

I have a good idea improve the drops depending on what happens, if the lockpick breakes you have a 9/10 chance of gettting a gold weapon but if it is retained it should have a 1/10 chance of being a gold.

Req 8 15^50 Chaos Axe in FoW. About 250 picks there too....

Seems like GW:EN chests in NM give a higher percentage of grapes than other areas, but I guess that's just my luck...

No, it's not. As one or more posters have already mentioned, lockpicks and keys in general are a gamble. The chances of getting something good are, always were, and should continue to be, low. Yes, it sucks that 1,500g went to getting an r12 domination mesmer offhand, but it's a gamble.

Chests aren't about being "fair." They're a gold sink, and have a very small chance of being profitable. That being said, I sometimes make my money back off of a series of lockpicks or end up suffering a loss. It all depends, but the fact is that golds do fall from the chests and it's a comfortable rate.

If you think the drops in GW are bad and need to be fixed, I hope none of you ever go to Vegas...

Fact is they need you to waste LOTS of gold in game. They've nerfed item drops continually to try to keep up some demand.
